There is a saying that states: “we must experience the bad times in our lives before we can enjoy the good ones.” And it is no secret right now that we are living in a bad time in world history.
The Coronavirus has put the world on a sudden halt. Our streets are empty looking like a ghost town, the economy is taking a downfall, businesses are shut down, our beloved sports have postponed their seasons, and millions of people, including myself, have lost our jobs with this pandemic. What seems as something that can only happen in a movie, has become a sudden reality.
Never in my life would I have thought I'd get laid off from a job, especially at a young age. After two years of searching for a full-time job, I thought I wouldn't have to be back on the job searching engines anytime soon. For a lot of us young adults who just landed their first full-time job, we were excited for the career path we wanted to take. So now what?
I wish there was an answer to when we knew all of this will be over. Right now, we just have to abide by the stay at home rules. However, there are some things in our power we can do to get through the quarantine.
First off, we have to stay positive. It is easy to be upset and frustrated about being home all day and not being able to go anywhere but only 3 places (work if you're still working, supermarket and gas station). But we cannot think about the negatives of all this. Having a positive attitude will help the situation.
I keep my mind positive by thinking all of this will end soon, and that every day that we practice social distancing, we are working towards being done with the quarantine soon. Your reasoning for being positive may be different but whatever helps, you want to pass that on to others.
Secondly, reach out to some old friends and colleagues. As cliché as it sounds, we are all in this together. Viruses do not discriminate and we're all sharing the experience of this. If there are some people you lost contact with, send a quick text, DM or FaceTime saying you are thinking about them, and you hope they are healthy and well. Not everyone can be home around their loved ones, so a simple gesture like that can go a long way.
I wish I had all the answers to this. I wish we could wake up tomorrow and go back to our everyday lives. Time plays a factor in all of this, but for those who are afraid of this pandemic, keep your head, stay positive and everything will be alright. I hope all of you stay safe and healthy.
