Transition of Time

I've been in a funk. Nothing is bad. Just one of those moods we sometimes get in. But some things have been sitting on my mind. One of the things I have been thinking about is growing up.

Recently one of my friends just moved to Arizona, and it made me think about all my friends, how we met and where we started, to where we are now. I recall a tweet I saw a few years ago with a picture of a playground and it said, "A some point, you played on here for the last time, and you didn't even know about it." That rings true. At the moment, we are not thinking about getting older and the possibility of all of us leaving. A fond memory I remember my friends and me getting together to play basketball at Vencil Brown. We would play for hours every day, game after game, not wanting to leave the court until one of us won. But as time goes on, we slowly see the opportunities to get together more are becoming more challenging.

We all are in different avenues in our lives. Some of us follow the road straight to college from high school. Some of us take a little longer to earn that BA or BS. But you shouldn't feel ashamed or jealous because your friend or friends finished in 4. No one is going to judge you based on how long it took. They will only applaud you when you finish.

Work is one thing that gets in the way of friends hanging out. Some of us are in serious relationships or even have a family. However, we are still able to make time when we can. But one that we are not ready for is the goodbye. Not everyone wants to stay in one place. We have different goals and aspirations to reach. Or maybe we want a change of scenery to press "restart" for them. What we have been so used to since we were kids is now transitioning to be somewhat tricky. Perhaps that is why we embrace each other much longer and say how much we love each other. Our friendship is not ending, but we know our time is more limited. That is why we make the most of that sip of beer or get in all the laughs we can. Time is moving faster for us than we ever expected. I am proud of where my friends are in life. And it is only going to go up from there. Cheer on your friends. Let them know you stand by them.

I have discussed before how time is crucial. It is significant. For me, and maybe others, what sets in with that time are the people and moments. I think about what I could have done better and what I could have handled the situation. And emotions tend to set in. Those I try to keep in. And I ask myself sometimes, why me or why not me? Am I a good person?

There is not a single person in this world that is perfect. We have all made mistakes and wish we could take back some things. And it can dwell and sit with us for a bit. But we have to learn how to forgive and be nice to ourselves. Emotions carry and sometimes sneak up on you when you least expect them. But make sure you heal and forgive yourself. Do not carry much of the blame. Learn and grow.
